About us

Building materials from Franconian Switzerland

As a qualified and recognised training company, we secure the future of our company and the region. Training and promoting young people brings a breath of fresh air and new ideas to the company. Both the corporate culture and the entire workforce benefit from this.

There are currently trainees at the plant as well as in the administration department in Gräfenberg. As a diverse employer, we employ around 70 people in Gräfenberg from all professions and backgrounds. From excavator drivers to electricians and accountants, we are united by the need for a workplace where we feel comfortable, honest dealings with each other and short distances.

A team of motivated and competent employees also provides expert advice and support on site.

Associations and memberships

The Bavarian Industrial Association for Stone and Soil (BIV) provides us with advice and support on technical issues.

The Landesbund für Vogelschutz e.V. (LBV) helps us with advice on possible nature conservation issues relating to the quarry. At the beginning of 2024, we committed to promoting temporary habitats for endangered amphibian species in our quarry with the "Natur auf Zeit" project.

With our partner interzero, we are supporting the issue of packaging recycling and saving greenhouse gases and primary resources.

The processing of raw materials requires a high input of energy. We are part of the OBEN energy efficiency network in order to organise this as efficiently and sparingly as possible and to recognise potential innovations for saving energy at an early stage.

We are a supporting member of the Federal Association of German Stonemasons.

We also support the Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband e.V. (DNV) with a sponsoring membership.

Company history

Family business in its 4th generation

The success story of a medium-sized company at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland began in 1930 when Wolfgang Endress was founded as a carpentry and construction company.

Wolfgang Endreß senior has been quarrying Franconian Jura for gravel production in the quarry in Gräfenberg since 1930. The first mill for limestone fillers is built in 1960. In 1964, the first lime kiln goes into operation. To further advance the refinement of Gräfenberg lime, a lime slaking machine was purchased at the end of the 1960s. Together with the company's own sands, the hydrated lime forms the basis for the production of ready-mixed dry mortar, which began in the 1980s. The product range of mortar, plasters and adhesives is constantly expanded and is now internationally recognised under the brand name gräfix.

As consistent quality and the development of new formulations have always played a major role, the company's own laboratory is responsible for quality control and research into new products.

Since 1983, Wolfgang Endress has been producing dry mortar, gravel, mineral concrete, various chippings, stone powder, fertiliser lime, white fine lime and white hydrated lime, as well as the entire range of building materials for walls and floors. A joint plaster production plant was founded in Satteldorf in 1989. Since 2011, the CalCem lime-cement mixture for soil stabilisation has been produced in the mixing plant there. The product range is rounded off with paste-like renders and colours. These are produced under the brand name Rabolin at the Hobbach site in Spessart, which was acquired in 1994. The company's own fleet of tipper trucks, tarpaulin and silo lorries is constantly being expanded and enables independent and flexible logistics to our customers. Since the mid-1990s, we have been delivering anhydrite self-levelling screed directly to the construction site with our self-developed Estromobil.

The construction of a new logistics centre has enabled us to optimise all logistics processes since 2020. The administration and laboratory also moved into the new building in 2021.
